MasterCard

MasterCard is a bank card payment network that offers financial services to both banks and their customers. Through its credit services, MasterCard allows consumers to make purchases on credit by charging interest on card balances against the financial institution issuing the card, who then collects interest and fees from the individual consumer. MasterCard’s principal business is the processing of payments between the banks of merchants and the banks of consumers whenever a purchase is made through MasterCard’s debit and credit cards.

MasterCard connects financial institutions, businesses, merchants and consumers all over the globe, by providing financial services in more than 210 countries and territories worldwide. MasterCard does not actually issue its own credit card to consumers. Instead, the company has created a type of financial services franchise through which financial institutions may employ their services to facilitate payment through their individual brand.

About MasterCard

Some of the financial brands offered by the MasterCard parent company—MasterCard Worldwide, are Maestro and PayPass. These enable its clients to process their payments through the MasterCard network system.

Different card issuers have varying terms of use for their brand's MasterCard. However, some of the common benefits of owning MasterCard debit or credit cards are that they enable you to pay your bills by simply authorizing merchants to charge your card on a regular basis. Alternatively, you may make one time only bill payments as well. Consumers may also pay their taxes using their MasterCard card, which will save them time as well as making the process more convenient. Moreover, consumers can safely shop online using their MasterCard debit or credit cards. This security is ensured through the use of a secret code which prevents unauthorized persons from using your card to shop over the internet.

MasterCard offers a secure and convenient means of payment to users worldwide by having payments processed by the merchant who takes the card from the consumer and taps it on a terminal. Through the vast MasterCard network, merchants are able to accept payments from any location in the world. However, you should note that the amounts of fees and rates that the financial institutions opt to charge on transactions made using MasterCard are completely independent of the MasterCard Company. In addition, there are currently over one million ATMs available for MasterCard users in over two hundred countries around the world.

MasterCard offers various types of cards which are used to issue and accept payment. These include MasterCard gold, MasterCard platinum, prepaid MasterCard and BMO MasterCard. Whichever type of MasterCard card one chooses, it should be accepted by majority of merchants worldwide due to the global recognition of the MasterCard brand.
